Meet the team

IMG_0510.JPG

We work in health and care. In our world, the conversation is almost always about patients, and although we are all patients, we wanted to create an initiative, especially for the health and care workforce and those who spend their days looking after everyone else.

Every Move Counts isn’t about how fast you go or how far you go. It’s about movement.

We believe that whatever gets you going- a walk, a swim, some yoga, a lunchtime run is worth celebrating.

Movement has always been a big part of my life. Whilst I was an overweight kid, I loved sports and being part of a team, despite being embarrassingly bad. But I persevered, and then once I left school, I had a gym membership, and I didn’t really know what I was doing; I just kept moving. Initially to lose weight, but I realised it made me feel good, and I exercised all through my three pregnancies, even if it was just a walk.

After finishing my MBA aged 31, I was unsure what to plough my energy into next, so I spontaneously signed up to climb Kilimanjaro, and I found an amazing community competing in mountain treks and ultramarathons. As somebody who had never run, I set my sights on my first challenge. I then ran 100k and have exercised ever since.

Exercise has become such a habit that it's just part of my everyday. I walk to work, go to the gym, run, like yoga and cycling, and like feeling strong.

Recently, my youngest daughter, aged 13, sadly passed away. One of the first things people said afterwards — after "Are you okay?" and "I'm so sorry"  was, "Are you exercising? Are you getting outside?" because they understood how important exercise is.

Much of my time now is spent walking and talking.

I am a testament to how important movement can be, whether it’s having fun with friends or providing support to process difficult feelings.

"Every move counts" is about moving your body with the support of others around you.

I’m a doctor, and one thing I’ve become very clear on over the years is that healthcare can’t just be about treating disease when something’s already gone wrong.

Treatment most definitely matters, but I’m far more interested in how we help people stay well in the first place. So much of our long-term health is shaped by the things we do every day, in how we move, how we eat, how we sleep, how we manage stress, and how well we look after ourselves before health problems start to build up.

That’s why proactive care and lifestyle medicine matter so much to me. I’m passionate about Healthspan too where we talk not just about living longer but living better for longer. Healthspan is about putting life into years and not just years into life.  Having the energy to enjoy life, and doing what matters with the best possible quality of living as the years go on.

What I love most is that this approach doesn’t need to be extreme or intimidating. It’s not about perfection. It’s about helping people make realistic, sustainable changes that genuinely fit into everyday life.

For me, Every Move Counts is a brilliant example of what proactive health should look like.  It’s simple, inclusive, and built around the everyday choices that make a real difference over time.

I’m a dad, a husband, and the managing director of Pure Unity Health — which celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2026.

As a physiotherapist, I believe in the power of exercise and movement. It’s shaped my whole career, and it’s why I’m part of Every Move Counts.

I’m also a triathlete, with one commitment I’ve set myself: a triathlon every year from 40 to 50. Not to chase a time, but because turning up, year after year, is what movement is really about.
